To the New York Law School Community:
With one semester as the 16th Dean and President of New York Law School under my belt, the time is right to report on our strategic planning goals for reintroducing the Law School and leading it to new success.
But first, my thanks. As you know, I began my deanship by reaching out to our Board of Trustees, students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, and friends of the Law School. The conversations we had about the Law School’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities have provided a great foundation for going forward. I also thank you for your generosity of spirit and pride in this institution. So many of you have made it clear to me that you are “all in for NYLS.” It is exactly what a new dean wants to hear, because like so many schools today, we have our work cut out for us. But, working together, we can do what needs to be done to make needed changes for our future.
In recent years, NYLS—and legal academia on the whole—has faced many obstacles. Many people have taken it upon themselves to report the Law School’s story. I say this: It is time to write our own story about who we are, what we stand for, and how we are changing. It is time to reintroduce ourselves. We are New York’s law school!
