ADVOCACY, MEDIA and THE BIG CASE (2) (JLH 350)

Professor Lis Wiehl. Gregg Jarrett

Students will have the opportunity to study the "big cases" from the perspective of the defense lawyer, the prosecutor, the judge and jury, and the media.  Students will explore how lawyers go about telling a story and articulating a theory to persuade a jury, and how lawyers' interaction with the media influences the case.  Students will discuss issues of ethics, evidence, trial advocacy, persuasion and strategy in dealing with the high profile case.  Guest speakers will offer additional insight in these areas.  Students will be expected to write a substantial paper.
