Climate Change Issues in Business and Real Estate is an interdisciplinary course that will require students to analyze legal issues and regulation involved in the emerging field of climate change law. The course will examine issues such as corporate compliance with emissions disclosure requirements, government incentives for sustainable practices, international negotiation and cooperation for sustainability comparing relevant domestic and international policies, litigation (common law liability) and climate justice, adaptation, public relations and stakeholder management and more. By the end of the course, the student should be knowledgeable about the key issues and implications and be ready to apply that knowledge in business and real estate (and especially as counsel for corporations or policy makers). While this course presumes neither prior course work nor knowledge of climate change, students are best prepared for this course having taken one or more of the following: environmental law and policy, real estate transactions and finance, environmental issues in real estate and business transactions, corporations, and international law.
