CRIMES AND IMMIGRATION (2) (CRI 400)

Professor Melynda Barnhart

Crimes and Immigration will cover the immigration consequences of federal and state criminal convictions, federal crimes relating to immigration, criminal procedural rights in immigration proceedings, and immigration relief for victims of crime. Constitutional issues regarding deportation as punishment and the limits of state power over immigration will be discussed, but this is not a major focus of the course. This course will be particularly useful for those interested in criminal law practice and immigration law practice. The course grade will be based on short practical writing assignments, such as memoranda and briefs, which would be suitable for writing samples.
