Introduction to the legal and policy issues raised by computers and information technology. From privacy rights to computer crime, from freedom of speech to regulatory codes, and from data security to personal jurisdiction, we are faced with two kinds of problems: first, the applicability of traditional legal doctrine to new technology; second, the desirability of technological solutions to social and economic problems. The course is designed to educate students in the foundations of cyberlaw and to guide them in exploring topics of current concern. Grading is on the basis of a take home exam or, with permission of the professor, a paper.
