Explores the response of the legal system to the problem of domestic violence, through state and federal criminal laws against domestic violence, including the federal Violence Against Women Act. Examines how the courts handle domestic violence in the context of divorce, alimony, and child custody determinations, and studies child Abuse laws and cases and sex abuse matters. Addresses domestic violence in the context of civil law (tort actions against batterers and employer liability for domestic violence in the workplace). The materials are presented through case law, statutes, and scholarly articles and include information about the historical, cultural, sociological and psychological aspects of domestic violence.
