Designed for students who have completed Constitutional Law I and II and who want to investigate further the historical origins, philosophical foundations, and doctrinal themes of the Speech, Press, and Religion Clauses of the First Amendment, with special attention to the constraints imposed by the First Amendment on the regulation of money and the role of religion in American politics. If enrollment is 12 or fewer, a paper is required; otherwise, a closed-book exam is required.
