Constitutional History: Founding Fathers, Their World and Ours (2) (JLH230)

Professor Bernstein

This course would introduce law students – both those who have studied American history and those who have not- to the heterogeneous group of farmers, lawyers, merchants, ministers, and soldiers whom we now call the founding fathers. It will set the founding fathers in historical context, exploring the world that helped shape them, examining the record of achievement and those issues and problems that they either could not solve or shunted to posterity, and surveying their evolving historical reputations and roles inconstitutional controversies from their day to ours.
