Professors Mark von Sternberg and Mario Russell
This
immigration field placement workshop combines a full year seminar course
and externship placement. It will allow students to spend a year
learning a broad range of immigration skills with a focus on defense of
removal. The students will work 13 hours per week at Catholic
Charities New York office and will meet once a week in a two hour
seminar. Students will prepare visa petitions, research eligibility
for relief from removal and prepare relevant visa petitions and
applications for relief. A significant portion of the work will
involve asylum law or other deportation defense. Students will make
presentations in the seminar portion of the course. Students can expect to
participate directly in immigration court proceedings.
Students are strongly encouraged to take Immigration and Nationality
Law as a prerequisite, this requirement can be waived by the
instructors.
