IMMIGRATION LAW (3) (GOV160)

Professors Lenni Benson and Lindsay Curcio

Examines legal rules and administrative procedures that define U.S. citizenship, permanent residence, non-immigrant categories, and refugee status. Also examines the problem of "illegal" immigration and enforcement procedures, both at the border and in the interior of the United States, and the government's power to remove non-citizens, in particular those who have been convicted of criminal activity. Close study of the Immigration and Nationality Act, related regulations and the special constitutional doctrines operating in immigration and alienage law. May be of special interest to those studying international business law and international human rights, because of the discussion of the regulated movement of people as a part of international trade, and substantive and procedural protections of non-citizens.
