Professor Elizabeth Chambliss
Law Without Walls
(LWOW) is an international online seminar with students and faculty from
Fordham Law School, Harvard Law School, New York Law School, University of
Miami School of Law, Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL),
and University College London. The goal of the seminar is to conduct
guided, collaborative research on the legal profession and to produce a
series of capstone projects on specific topics. Each school will select
two to four students to participate in the seminar. Each student will work
collaboratively with a student from a different city, as well as a faculty
supervisor and a mentor from practice, to define a problem in legal
education or practice and design a solution. These capstone projects may
take many forms, depending on the issue of interest. The seminar will
kick-off with a 2-day, in-person meeting of participating faculty, mentors
and students, and will meet thereafter for one one-hour face-to-face
session (among the participants at each school) and one two-hour virtual
session (for all participants) each week. Virtual sessions will include
guest lectures by leading scholars on the profession, as well as guided
discussion by faculty from participating schools. The seminar will
conclude with an in-person symposium where student teams will present
their projects.
Prerequisites include American Legal
Profession and Professional Responsibility. Also helpful would be
Corporations and International Law.
