Special Topics in International Law: Transitional Justice

Explores the conception of justice in periods of political flux, including regime change in Latin America, South Africa, the former Soviet Union, and parts of the Middle East.   Organized along a number of cross-cutting modalities, ranging from public to private (constitutional, criminal, civil as well as historical and literary responses).  The course contributes to the knowledge in diverse areas of law including criminal justice, remedies, international law, and human rights during periods of compromised rule of law.

Readings include a book on the subject  and a documentary supplement.  Beyond class participation in the weekly class meetings, studants are expected to research and write an original paper on a topic related to the subject. Limited enrollment.
