This course, more appropriately described as sports and the law, examines the application to sports of a variety of different fields of law, including contract, labor, antitrust, intellectual property, disability and constitutional law. Among the specific topics studied are the powers of the commissioner, the players market, the interplay between antitrust and labor law in sports, licensing and broadcasting, the role of agents, and college sports. Students are required to complete either Labor Relations Law or Antitrust Law before enrolling.
Prerequisites: Labor Relations Law (LEL130) or Antitrust Law (GOV110). Students are strongly advised to complete both courses before enrolling.
