Covers the legal structure by which the international community attempts to regulate armed conflicts on land. Topics include general principles and sources of the law of war, means and conduct of hostilities, limitations on wartime decision making, controls on the treatment of individuals, property, and occupied territory, and the role of international organizations and neutrals. Special attention is given to examples from recent armed conflicts including Afghanistan and Iraq. A paper is required. Enrollment limited.
