This clinic provides students with the opportunity to represent low-income clients with legal problems that are caused or worsened by urban poverty. Working under faculty supervision, students will be introduced to civil litigation and advocacy in a variety of contexts and forums by representing clients in special education, government benefits and employment discrimination cases. During both the fall and spring semesters, students will work on actual cases. During the fall semester, seminars will focus on relevant substantive law and lawyering skills, including client and witness interviewing, fact investigation and analysis, counseling, negotiating, mediating and trial advocacy. In the spring semester, students will be introduced to an additional subject area. Students will attend one credit worth of seminar sessions devoted to the new subject, continue to work on their cases from the fall, and receive cases in the new subject matter.
