VOTING RIGHTS (3) (GOV 125)

This course explores the development of voting rights in the United States through the study of constitutional amendments, Supreme Court jurisprudence and statutory provisions including the Voting Rights Act.  The class will study the impact of voting rights and civic participation on our social and political structure, as well as the efforts by federal, state and local governments to control exercise f the franchise and the ways social and legal movements have responded, including recent efforts across the country to restrict voter registration and participation.
