New York City Land Use
What is a land use attorney’s role in real estate development or siting community facilities? The course will include a professionally based study of New York City’s land use rules and procedures. Coverage includes how a land use attorney needs to utilize the Administrative Code include the Zoning Resolution, environmental regulations, building and fire codes. Also covered will be Article 78 proceedings, landmarks procedures and issues of eminent domain, siting for the fair distribution of community facilities, obtaining building permits, certificates of occupancy, and understanding ULURP. The course focuses on the work of the New York City Council, the Planning Commission, the Board of Standards and Appeals, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and the Department of Buildings. This is taught as a pragmatic practical seminar with an emphasis on real-life work experiences and ethical concerns.
