This course will introduce students to the concepts of preservation and cultural resource protection and expose them to the wide variety of legal and regulatory systems governing preservation activities that they are likely to encounter in real estate practice. Federal, state, and local laws and ordinances will be discussed, with a special focus on the New York City Landmarks Law. Constitutional and administrative law issues arising in the preservation field will also be analyzed.
This course is an upper-level elective in the real estate J.D. and LL.M. programs, with important regulatory and administrative components.
