About Us

To succeed in today's thriving real estate industry, lawyers must be prepared to work across a range of disciplines and interact with specialists in a variety of fields.  Real estate lawyers must be familiar not only with theoretical knowledge of property law but also with the ability to solve real-world problems.  In response to these challenges, and a growing interest among students in real estate law, New York Law School established the Center for Real Estate Studies.

The Center for Real Estate Studies at New York Law School provides students with a unique educational opportunity to study both the private practice and public regulation of real estate.  Leveraging the School's location in the prime real estate market of New York City, the Center enables students to gain practical experience in the real estate community and make contacts for future employment.

Launched in 2007, the Center sponsors conferences, symposia, and continuing legal education programs on a broad spectrum of issues.  It also offers an extensive selection of classroom courses, advanced seminars, and independent study projects, as well as externships in governmental offices and real estate firms.

The Center brings together real estate professionals, policy makers, academics, media, and others to study and discuss the public costs and social justice issues arising from the intensive development of land resources.  Its programs and curriculum reflect current concerns about ensuring environmental sustainability, creating affordable housing, preserving historical landmarks, and safeguarding the financial stability of the residential and commerical mortgage market.  The Center for Real Estate Studies aims to bridge the existing gap between the private practice and academic study of real estate, and is one of the premier research centers in the United States for the study of real estate.
