Theresa Garelli

Adjunct Professor

Theresa Garelli is Senior Vice President and Counsel at First American Title Insurance Company of New York.   In her current role as Senior Vice President and Counsel at First American Title Insurance Company of New York, Theresa Garelli is responsible for business development and client service in national and international commercial real estate market including major national & international law firms and lending institutions.  These servicing responsibilities consist of sales calls, entertaining clients and providing technical real estate and title insurance support in the form of document review, extensive underwriting, closing deals and general suggestions on drafting of legal forms and the structuring of transactions.  Additional responsibilities include identifying and developing important market segments, including but not limited to REITS, large corporations, and residential and commercial developers.   Professor Garelli has more than 20 years of experience in the title insurance industry, including five years as the Chief Claims Counsel at First American. 

Professor Garelli leadership roles and affiliations with professional organizations are numerous.   She is a well known speaker at legal conferences and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Real Estate Women.  She Co-Chairs the Programs Committee for Commercial Real Estate Women, New York Chapter.  She serves on the Board of Directors at the Health & Business Alliance and at the Business and Professional Wmen, Manhattan Club.   

Professor Garelli earned her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Florida State University, Tallahassee and her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  She is fluent in Spanish and Italian.
