Design Workshops - By Invitation

Design Workshops Program

At each State of Play, public panels are complemented by workshops where we do hands on work to address social and legal problems in the metaverse. This is an opportunity for a small but interdisciplinary working group to hammer out concrete solutions.

In past years, we have held workshops on:
    • Rulemaking and Virtual Worlds
    • Designing a Dispute Resolution System for Virtual Worlds
    • Virtual Worlds and Law Teaching

This year, the Workshops will take place prior to the main State of Plate conference. Three, parallel day-long sessions will focus on impediments to flourishing of the metaverse. The first workshop builds on prior conversations about the appropriate role of copyright law, if any, in the flourishing of player creativity. It asks participants to design a digital property regime for player control over collaborative creativity. The second workshop focuses on the thorny problem of identity in the metaverse and asks participants to develop a player-controlled social reputation scheme for the metaverse. The third workshop focuses on the opportunities for collective action in the metaverse. In this session, we attempt to design the “group avatar,” the fictional representation of the group in the virtual world.
