Public Education

In addition to its litigation and advocacy projects, the Racial Justice Project endeavors to provide the general public with ongoing information and resources relating to the role of race and law in American society.

Race to Justice Blog

The Race to Justice Blog provides a forum for faculty and students to provide news and interpretations of recent legal developments. Posts not only summarize recent events; they also provide insights into the racialized motivations or racial effects of laws, court cases, or policy initiatives in situations where they may not be apparent.

Symposia

The Racial Justice Project periodically sponsors symposia that bring together academics, practitioners, and community leaders to investigate many of the problems discussed on this website. In the spring of 2009, the Project cosponsored its first symposium with the American Civil Liberties Union's Racial Justice Project. The symposium, entitled "Challenging the School-to-Prison Pipeline," examined the systemic policies and practices that push our nation's schoolchildren, especially at-risk children, out of classrooms and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. This prioritization of incarceration over education disproportionately affects children of color.

To read more about this event  or to watch video of the conference, please visit the symposium's Web page at www.nyls.edu/stpp.

The New York Law School Law Review will publish a special symposium issue, entitled "Locating the School-to-Prison Pipeline," in the 2009–2010 academic year. The special issue will collect several of the academic articles that were presented in conjunction with the symposium. Electronic versions of these articles will be made available on this website once they have been published.
