Dear New York Law School 1Ls, 2Ls and evening 3Ls:

You are invited! REGISTRATION IS OPEN for the 2013 Family Law Internship Forum, to be held at New York Law School, on Friday, January 11th, 2013 from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. You’ll have a chance to meet, and exchange business cards and resumes, with organizations across New York City devoted to family law in the public interest, including:

• Bronx Defenders

• The Center for Family Representation

• The Children's Law Center

• The Family Center

• Legal Information for Families Today

• The Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice

• The New York Center for Juvenile Justice

• New York City Administration for Children's Services

• New York City Family Courts

• The New York Legal Assistance Group

• Sanctuary for Families

All of the organizations attending are eager to hire New York Law School students interested in working in Family Law, so this is a great opportunity to get a head-start on meeting them and planning your summer.

How to sign up:

RIGHT NOW, FOLLOW THIS LINK to complete your registration. You must submit the online by Tuesday, December 11th. It is to your benefit to register as early as possible because we will match students with employers on a rolling basis. The registration site will allow you to rank your top five choices of organizations from the list above. The time slots will be scheduled in 30-minutes intervals, on the hour and half-hour, with a 10-minute break between every 20-minute meeting. Note that all attending students should be available from the 9:30 AM introductory remarks to the end of the last round-table discussion at 12:30 PM. Lunch from 12:30 to 2:00 PM will be free and optional, but it is recommended that you attend so that you can remind your favorite organization of your interest or sit with someone with whom you did not get to schedule a meeting.

 By December 21st, you will hear back from the Abbey Center with the organizations and schedule you have been assigned.

How the event works:

The purpose of this event is to match up students interested in family law with family-oriented public interest organizations and government agencies, so they can learn a bit about you and you can learn a bit about them, their summer internship programs, and their application timelines and processes. Each organization will have two or three representatives present, and they will sit with up to six students at a table for 20-minute intervals from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. You will be able to meet with at least three of your top choice organizations and one wild card organization that will be assigned to you to give you a taste of something you might not normally choose. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 2:00 PM to allow you some time to informally network with any organization members of interest.

The Family Law Internship Forum is organized by the Diane Abbey Law Center for Children and Families and New York Law School’s Office of Career Services.
