A Special Message from Dean Richard. A. Matasar
Nearly 120 years ago, New York Law School beganlife in a groundbreaking show of rebellion; we’ve been leaders in improving and refining legal education ever since. We pioneered making the legal profession available to a diverse population of students. We opened and maintain one of the nation’s premier Evening Division programs to enable working people to hold fulltime jobs while becoming lawyers. We trained, and will continue to train, generations of leaders—the New York Law School way.
We are a true New York story: a fiercely independent school for an
independentminded community of faculty, students, and alumni who blaze
paths in their chosen fields. We’re entrepreneurial, flexible, and
vibrant, just like our new home in the country’s most exhilarating
city, in its most exciting neighborhood—TriBeCa, the center for
courts, government agencies, law firms, corporations, and
entertainment businesses.
Now, with more than 115 years of history behind us, we are breaking new ground again: constructing a new building, renovating our existing facilities, growing our faculty, and developing the most innovative program in legal education. This capital campaign—Breaking New Ground. Again.—will provide the fuel to power our success.
A typical campaign scrambles for money to pay for the bricks and mortar of new buildings; not at New York Law School. We devised an ingenious way to finance it, without turning to you, our most loyal supporters and friends. Instead, we call on you to build our endowment to support and nourish the program, the faculty, and the students who will inhabit those buildings, and take our school to unrivaled heights.
Leading institutions have three things in common: great place, great
program, and great people. What separates the best from the rest, however,
is a fourth element: an ever-growing, significant endowment to ensure
success in perpetuity. In a short time, driven solely by ingenuity and
operating income, New York Law School has built a wonderful place,
developed an innovative program, and attracted extraordinary people. Now
is the moment to propel ourselves into the future. We must amass the
resources essential to build on what we have achieved, secure a
superlative education for the students of tomorrow, and provide our
profession its
next generation of leaders.
