Dear New York Law School Community,

Undoubtedly, Saturday, April 18, 2009, will go down as one of the great days in the history of New York Law School. It is hard to express in words the thrill of seeing 1,700 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends exploring the halls of our spectacular new building, a surge of energy flowing through all of us as we experienced the Law School reaching new, unparalleled heights. At this moment I could not be more excited for the generations of students yet to walk through our doors and into the new New York Law School.

Our new building marks not only an expansion of our historic campus in TriBeCa, but an expansion of our student centered academic programs as well. The new nine story building more than doubles our classroom space, and includes a beautiful new student center with an outdoor terrace and views of the Empire State Building. The new state of the art library has wonderful new places to research and study, including group study rooms, and, happily for all of us, retains the Mendik Family name, as it will in perpetuity.

Check this page later this week for pictures of the event – with 4 photographers capturing the celebration, you’re sure to see pictures of yourself, your friends or teachers.

I would like to thank Chair of the Board Arthur Abbey, our Board of Trustees, and our alumni, faculty, staff and friends who believed in this project well before the first shovel of dirt was removed in the summer of 2006, as well as all those who since have embraced the ambitious goals for our Law School. When I walk out of the subway each morning the first thing I see is our new home, and I could not be more proud of the dream we brought to life together.

With warmest regards,

Richard A. Matasar
Dean and President
