Farnaz M. Alemi

Farnaz Alemi is an associate in the Los Angles office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the Entertainment, Sports and Media Transactions, Interactive Media and Video Games and Technology Transactions Practice Groups. Since joining the firm in 2007, Ms. Alemi's experience focuses on corporate transactions related to intellectual property, media, entertainment and technology. She works on a variety of technology-related transactions, including technology transfers, software licensing and distribution and internet and website agreements. Ms. Alemi has represented companies across a variety of industries, including interactive entertainment, video and online games, design and merchandising, retail and internet software and services.

Ms. Alemi is actively involved with the American Bar Association's Special Committee on Computer Gaming and Virtual Worlds, where she is the Co-Chair of the Policy Subcommittee.

Ms. Alemi's publications include:

  • Author, "An Avatar's Day in Court: A Proposal for Obtaining Relief and Resolving Disputes in Virtual World Games," UCLA Journal of Law and Technology, Fall 2007. The article is being re-printed in the November 2008 issue of the Icfai Journal of CyberLaw, as well as in the book Internet Regime: Issues and Implications. Both publications are owned by the Icfai University Press, which is based in India.
  • Co-authored a feature article, "Clean Games," Entertainment Issue of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine, May 2008, which examines the legal issues surrounding the video game industry.
  • Co-authored "The Trouble with the 'E' in Proxy," The Business Law Update, a publication of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Business & Corporations Law Section, Spring 2008. The article has been re-posted on Deloitte's Center for Corporate Governance website.

Ms. Alemi co-presented, "Legal Issues of Social Networking," Latham & Watkins Webcast on October 2, 2008, which was targeted to media and entertainment companies' executives and general counsel. In April 2008, she spoke at Northwestern University School of Law on the topic of virtual laws in virtual worlds, regarding IP and other legal issues impacting this platform. In addition, Ms. Alemi has been invited to be a panelist at the upcoming State of Play Conference.
