Lynn Boepple Su

Associate Professor of Law

Lynn Boepple Su is an Associate Professor of Law and a former Writing Specialist at New York Law School. Professor Su currently teaches Legal Practice, a first-year course that introduces students to fundamental lawyering skills in the context of real-life problems. Before joining the Legal Practice faculty, Professor Su served as co-director of the New York Law School’s Writing Program, overseeing the first-year writing curriculum and upper-level writing electives. As the Writing Specialist, she tutored students individually on the principles of legal writing and conducted workshops on legal analysis, writing, and appellate advocacy.

Professor Su’s background in private practice and as an assistant district attorney informs her teaching. She uses real-life examples to show her students how the lawyering skills taught in class are used practice. Her in-role exercises expose students to the human element of lawyering and help them begin to develop a professional identity.

From 1986 to 1990, Professor Su was an assistant district attorney in Bronx County, New York, working in the Criminal Courts, Felony Evaluation Case Unit, and Investigations Bureaus. She prosecuted criminal cases in New York State and City courts and coordinated the investigation and prosecution of economic crimes.

Professor Su broadened her legal experience as an associate at several New Jersey law firms. In private practice, she concentrated in the area of employment litigation, assisting in the representation of management in wrongful termination and discrimination cases and in matters of employer-employee relations. She also worked on appeals and helped litigate prerogative writ land use cases.

Professor Su is a graduate of New York University (B.A., 1982, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Washington & Lee University (J.D., 1985, cum laude). She coauthored The Lawyer’s Craft: An Introduction to Legal Analysis, Writing, and Advocacy (Anderson Publishing Co., 2002).
