Marcia Nan Levy

Professor of Law

Marcia Levy joined NYLS in fall 2011 and teaches Legal Practice. Most recently, she was Special Counsel for Pro Bono and Director of Professional Development at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. Prior to that, Professor Levy spent 14 years in legal education, working as the dean of skills programs at Hofstra University School of Law, as director of the clinical law program at the University of Denver College of Law, and as a clinical law professor and the first director of the Eric Neisser Public Interest Program at Rutgers University School of Law. Professor Levy has served as an assistant federal defender for the Federal Defender’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. She was also a staff attorney with The Legal Aid Society Prisoners’ Rights Project. Professor Levy specializes in developing, directing, and teaching in advocacy training programs; working domestically with organizations such as the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and internationally with ABA-Roli, Pilnet, and others. She serves as Special Advisor to Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman’s Task Force on Access to Civil Legal Services, is a member of the NYC Bar Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, and is past Chair of the AALS Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service.
