PRIVACY:
New York Law School Mendik Library does not collect personal information about our users, or about those who use Mendik Mobile. The only information we retain in our system is the basic information needed to identify and contact users who have borrowed library materials. Once the borrowed materials are returned, the data about a user’s borrowing record is not retained; it is deleted from our system.
DATA CHARGES:
Mendik Mobile operates using data networks. Depending on your location and settings, the app will access data over your device’s Wi-fi or cellular connection. When using Mendik Mobile with a cellular connection, you may incur charges based on the amount of data sent and received, as specified in your cellular carrier’s data plan.
ANDROID USERS:
Smartphone users with the Android OS should please note that during the installation process, you may see install warnings that permissions to use certain sub-systems in the OS will be activated. Mendik Mobile currently uses only one such sub-system:
Network Communication: The app operates by making extensive use of data networks. See the notice above regarding possible data charges.
Please note that the app as currently configured does NOT access any of the following sub-systems:
SD Card: for downloading or viewing of PDF files or ebooks
Hardware Controls: the camera is accessed to scan barcodes
Location (GPS): utilized by the Locator channel to calculate distance or directions
Mendik Mobile does not currently support any of these features. If the Mendik Library later implements the features, then these sub-systems will be used.
APPLE, BLACKBERRY AND OTHER OSs:
Other smartphone manufacturers bundle permissions and privacy notifications into the periodic updates of their operating systems. Users are required to accept the terms included in these notices before the updates take effect. Thus, you will not see warnings regarding sub-system permissions when you install Mendik Mobile on these devices.
