REFERENCE LIBRARIAN:
DESCRIPTION: New York Law School, a dynamic urban law center in the heart of Tribeca, has an opening for a professional reference librarian. The Library holds a collection of over 500,000 volumes and a full range of electronic subscriptions to support the needs of more than 75 faculty and 1500 students in day, evening and LLM divisions. The Law School's curriculum is distinguished by its systematic effort to integrate the study of theory and practice and to infuse theoretical analysis with the strategic and ethical questions that make the practice of law an unending challenge. Many of our programs are anchored within one of the school’s research centers. Please visit our website (http://www.nyls.edu) for more information about NYLS.
Our team of reference librarians works together to provide reference service and research instruction to the law school community. Each librarian participates in the Library’s faculty liaison program and the extensive research skills teaching program, and may also serve on various law school committees and planning groups. In addition, this librarian will be responsible for managing our government resources and microform collections. Formal teaching opportunities are possible through appointment to the rank of Professor of Legal Research. Supervision of library operations during some evening and weekend hours is also required.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS and JD degrees are required (substantial law library experience may be considered in lieu of JD). Previous reference experience and familiarity with government information resources is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong service commitment, and evidence of ability to work well with faculty, students and staff in a variety of settings, are essential.
SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
includes a full range of benefits and support for professional
