The Mendik Library participates as a supplier in the OCLC
Interlibrary Loan Subsystem. Our institutional symbol is ZNL. Our OCLC
lending policies are available in the OCLC Policy Directory.
The Library also welcomes borrowing requests by email from local libraries
outside the OCLC system. Most of these requests come from the libraries of
local law firms and other non-academic institutions. We require that the
borrowing institution submit a standard ALA Interlibrary Loan Request Form
for each item borrowed. NYLS Library will accept non-OCLC interlibrary loan
requests subject to the guidelines below:
Loan Periods:
Monographs will circulate for two weeks.
Multi-volume sets, in whole or in part
The
following types of materials do not circulate:
Loose-leaf
materials
Reserve Collection materials
Reference Collection materials
Periodicals
Rare or fragile books
Materials held in special collections
Master
microforms (The Library has a fiche-to-fiche duplicator which can make
copies
of microfiche for loan.)
Local libraries
may arrange to send a representative to copy non-circulating materials on
the self-service copiers in the Library. A copy-card, available for
purchase with cash from vending machines on-site, is required to use the
copy machines.
The Library is cognizant of
the Federal provisions governing copyright. We strive to offer
interlibrary loan services in ways that do not infringe the relevant laws.
We reserve the right to refuse a copying order if, in our judgment,
fulfillment of the order would violate copyright laws.
