Commencement 2012 at a glance

  • Commencement 2012 is scheduled for Monday, May 21, 2012, at 11:00 AM.
  • The location will be Radio City Music Hall, located on 6th Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets in New York City.
  • The ceremony will be approximately two and one-half hours long.
  • Highlights of special instructions for graduates:
    • Bring your cap, gown, hood, tassel and name card (see below).
    • Arrive by 9:30 a.m. Enter the Music Hall from the 1260 6th Avenue entrance and proceed to the robing/line-up area downstairs.
    • Do not leave anything in the robing area and, if possible, give all valuables to your family to hold for you.
    • There will be two student lines. Unless you have been given a specific place to be on the line, please line up either in front of or behind the people with whom you want to sit. The procession will start at 11 am.
    • NYLS Staff ushers will direct you to the proper row in the auditorium and also let you know when it is time for your row to cross the stage.
    • As you cross the stage, you will hand your name card to the faculty reader. The professor will announce your name. We will scan the card and your name will appear on large screens for the audience. You will walk to the center of the stage, receive a scroll from Interim Dean Carol Buckler and shake hands with Arthur Abbey, Chair of the Board of Trustees. Continue across the stage, down the far stairs and return to your seat. (If you are a legacy grad, your name will be read by Suzanne Davidson and you will receive your scroll from your relative. Please still bring your name card to the ceremony.)
    • We will take three pictures of you during this process – one before you cross, one as you get your scroll/shake hands, and one at the end of the process.
