Arthur N. Abbey ’59, Chair of the New York Law School Board of Trustees, has been named to The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America. The Lawdragon 500 is the most selective designation a U.S. attorney can achieve and an elite honor. The Lawdragon 500 is an annual look at the practitioners, judges and academics who are handling the biggest cases and deals, making the greatest impact on the law.
Mr. Abbey was selected for this recognition based on his leadership in the U.S. legal profession and his leadership role in the securities class action trial against Vivendi Universal, S.A. The Vivendi case is just one of nine securities class actions tried to verdict based on wrongs committed following the passage of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act in 1995. The jury verdict against Vivendi S.A. will entitle investors to recover as much as an estimated $9.3 billion, or €6.6 billion.
