Examines the legal rights of mentally handicapped persons, focusing specially on the right to receive or refuse treatment, civil rights within institutions for the mentally handicapped, and the right to the least restrictive treatment environment. Civil commitment criteria are studied, as is the possible existence of a right to aftercare and community services for deinstitutionalized patients and the perceived linkage between homelessness and deinstitutionalization.
