New York Law School's Domestic Violence (DV) Project is committed to supporting the Courtroom Advocates Project (CAP) as it continues to grow to meet the needs of victims of domestic violence in New York City and throughout lower New York State. The Courtroom Advocates Project enables our students to participate in a range of legal activities, including interviewing, education, and direct in-court advocacy, while providing critical assistance to victims of domestic violence in New York City's most underserved boroughs. Our students assist petitioners seeking orders of protection against their intimate partners.
The DV Project has supported and participated in the Courtroom Advocates Project since Fall 1997, contributing to the over 4,000 petitioners that have been assisted by over 4,000 Student Advocates from ten New York City area law schools. The DV Project also conducts annual fundraisers to assist families affected by domestic violence.
