The Research Study (Short-term
longitudinal study):
Two sets of questionnaires, separated by three-month
period
- One questionnaire near time of filing of bankruptcy petition; and
- A second questionnaire after some debtors have had a chance to take the
financial literacy class and reflect on the material
covered.
Respondent Groups
This study was designed to
measure three control groups for comparison with the experimental group. These
groups include:
- Experimental Group - debtors (filing for bankruptcy) in EDNY who volunteer
and take financial literacy course offered by the Coalition
- Control 1 - Debtors who neither volunteer for, nor receive financial
literacy course
- Control 2 - Debtors who volunteer for, but do not take financial literacy
course
- Control 3 - Non-Debtors (individuals who have not filed for bankruptcy)
