Physical, Corporate, and Governmental Pressures on Latin American Journalism Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 6:30 p.m. Gerardo Reyes is a journalist and lawyer from Colombia. He was a professor of investigative journalism at several universities in Bogota. In 1998 he was hired by El Nuevo Herald, a sister newspaper of the Miami Herald. He worked as an assistant city editor. Later he covered Latin America, where he reported on major presendential elections, drug trafficking and corruption scandals. In 1999, he was transferred to the Miami Herald. He was part of the team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting for "Dirty Votes, the Race for Miami Mayor." He returned to El Nuevo Herald in 2000 as a Latin American editor and currently covers Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Peru. Reyes is the author of the books Periodismo de Investigacion (Investigative Journalism) and Made in Miami (the life of narcos, saints, seducers, caudillos and snitches).
