With Unveiling of Portrait, Donation of his Papers

New York, NY, September 16, 2003-New York Law School will celebrate one of its most illustrious alumni when it hosts a program and dinner in honor of United States Second Circuit Judge Roger J. Miner.  The affair, which is by invitation only but to which the press will be admitted, will occur on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the school's campus, 57 Worth Street in Manhattan.

The proceedings will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception in the Ernst Stiefel Reading Room, during which a portrait of Judge Miner will be unveiled and the donation of his papers will be formally received  by the school.  The portrait was underwritten by 31 of Judge Miner's former law clerks.  Arthur N. Abbey, '59, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, will officiate this portion of the program.  Professor and Dean Emeritus James E. Simon will preside over the dedication of Judge Miner's papers.  Other speakers will include Dean and President Richard A. Matasar, several former law clerks to Judge Miner, and the Judge himself.

Judge Miner graduated cum laude from the school with an LL.B. in 1956.  He then served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps while on active military duty from 1956 to 1959, and proceeded to a career in private law practice in the Albany area.  He became District Attorney of Columbia County in 1968, a New York Supreme Court Justice in 1976, a Federal District Judge for the Northern District of New York in 1981, and a Second Circuit Judge in 1985.  In the latter capacity he assumed Senior status in 1997.  He has taught at New York and Albany Law Schools, has published numerous articles in legal periodicals, and has been the recipient of many professional and civic awards.
