News » Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance Offered At New York Law School
NEW YORK, NY, February 2, 2004—Federal and state tax help will be available from IRS trained volunteers beginning February 2 at New York Law School, 57 Worth Street, New York. The school is one of many Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites where volunteers will assist low-income taxpayers with their tax returns.
Students from the law school receive training from the IRS in the preparation of basic state and federal tax returns (Forms 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040.) They can assist taxpayers in determining whether they qualify for the earned income credit and child tax credit. Taxpayers who visit a VITA site should bring this year’s tax package, all wage and earnings statements (Form W-2), all interest statements (Form 1099-INT), copies of social security cards for themselves and their dependents, and any other relevant information about income and expenses.
In addition, the school is an e-file site where taxpayers can file their income tax returns electronically. E-filers get their refunds twice as quickly as those using paper returns – in as little as 10 days when they choose Direct Deposit.
The school’s Office of Public Interest and Community Service coordinates the program. Individuals seeking assistance should call 212.431.2851 for appointments
