Top 10 Virus Protection Tips

  1. Do not open any files attached  to an email from an unknown, suspicious or untrustworthy source. Delete the email immediately
  2. Delete chain email and junk email.  Do not forward or reply to any of them
  3. Exercise caution when visiting websites and downloading files from the Internet.  Ensure that the website is legitimate and reputable
  4. Exercise caution when following web links contained in an email
  5. Apply all necessary Windows security patches.  Viruses oftentimes attempt to exploit known vulnerabilites in software
  6. Keep your anti-virus definitions current.
  7. Use your F:\ drive to backup important files.  If a virus infects your files, at least you will have a backup copy
  8. When in doubt always err on the side of caution and do not open, download, or execute any files or email attachments
