The Board of Law Examiners on Friday announced that the passing grade for the bar exam will be increased to 675 from 660 over the next three years.
Beginning with the July 2005 test, the passing grade will be increased five points annually until the July 2007 exam.
The current standard was set in 1979. Two years ago, mindful that neighboring and similar states all had higher standards, the board proposed increasing the passing grade.
Critics opposed the action, expressing concern that minorities would be disparately impacted.
