You should record an extended absence greeting on the weekdays you are away from the Law School. Otherwise upon hearing your regular greeting, a caller may assume that you are in the office, but not available. Your extended absence greeting will notify the caller that you are not in the office. An extended absence greeting cannot be bypassed, and it will temporarily deactivate your personal greeting. A sample extended absence greeting is noted below:
This is (your name). I will be on vacation (e.g., out of the office, at a seminar, at a conference) on (dates)). If you need assistance, press zero (if zero forwards to a person within your office who could assist the caller) or* (star) and the extension number (and the caller will be transferred to that person) to speak with (name of individual).
You may also choose to include other pertinent information if you will be out of the office for an extended period (e.g., call me at home, I will check for messages periodically). But remember, all persons who call will hear this greeting.
