NEW YORK, September 2, 2005 --- As the nation begins to absorb the magnitude of the growing crisis in the Gulf states, the entire New York Law School community has joined in expressing sympathy and concern for those suffering from the loss of their loved ones, their homes, and their livelihoods in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Like many other institutions of higher education, the law school has taken steps to offer assistance to the victims, with efforts focused in two main areas: 1) a general drive to raise funds to benefit major organizations that are coordinating the relief effort, and 2) providing assistance to the two New Orleans-area law schools at Tulane and Loyola Universities that have lost access to their campuses.

Admission of Visiting Students

New York Law School will accept second- and third-year students from Tulane Law School and Loyola Law School as visiting students for the fall semester, and if needed, for the full year. The school has not put a maximum on the number of students that can be accepted and hopes to be able to accommodate students as needed. The school is also offering office space and library services to Tulane and Loyola faculty or administrators who would like to work from New York Law School. More details are available on the New York Law School Web site at old.nyls.edu, which is being updated frequently with new information about the school’s assistance plan.

Schoolwide Fundraising Drive

New York Law School’s student organizations have joined with the administration in organizing a drive to collect disaster relief funds. All collected funds will be donated to disaster relief organizations assisting victims of the hurricane—specifically, to the American Red Cross and CARE—and directly to the families of students who have lost their homes.
