Anthony A. Capetola '70 joins us to share his experiences as a white-collar defense attorney. Mr. Capetola began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County and since then has been admitted to many federal jurisdictions across the country because of his extensive background in criminal law. One of Mr. Capetola's most notable clients was Henry Hill, immortalized in Martin Scorcese's film Goodfellas

Mr. Capetola has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Widener University School of Law and has lectured extensively about all phases of criminal and civil litigation. Mr. Capetola also serves on the New York Law School Board of Trustees.

Professors Aleta G. Estreicher and Howard S. Meyers discussed securities arbitration as an increasingly important tool for investors seeking redress for their stockbrokers' misconduct. As co-directors of New York Law School's Securities Arbitration Clinic, they discussed whether the securities arbitration process is inherently fair to investors. Clinic students also shared their experiences and further discussed the securities arbitration process.

Professor Estreicher is a recognized authority on securities regulation and corporate law and has been teaching Corporations, Securities Regulation, and Property at New York Law School since 1984.

Professor Meyers is an arbitrator on behalf of the New York Stock Exchange and the National Association of Securities Dealers, and previously served as a staff attorney in the Northeast Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Enforcement.

Allan Brilliant is a partner in Goodwin Procter's Business Law Department and serves as co-chair of the Financial Restructuring Practice. Mr. Brilliant concentrates his practice in bankruptcy reorganizations and non-judicial workouts and restructurings representing debtors, bank groups, bondholder committees, asset acquirers and unsecured creditors' committees in large complex restructurings and reorganizations throughout the United States. He is also an accomplished bankruptcy litigator who has successfully handled contested confirmation hearings, fraudulent transfer and preference litigation and numerous bankruptcy appeals. Mr. Brilliant has lectured and written numerous articles on bankruptcy issues. He is the coordinating editor of a four-volume treatise on insolvency law, Fletcher Corporate Bankruptcy, Reorganization and Dissolution (Clark Boardman Callahan 1992).

Stuart H. Gelfond is a corporate partner at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in New York. Mr. Gelfond concentrates his practice in corporate finance transactions but also represents clients in private equity and acquisition transactions. He acts as counsel to corporations and broker-dealers on securities, corporate governance and other regulatory issues. Mr. Gelfond has been a guest lecturer at New York University’s Stern School of Business and speaks regularly on securities law and corporate governance topics for the Practising Law Institute and the New York City Bar.
