The Essentials of Representing Nonprofits and Foundations
Sponsored by the Justice Action Center and the Alliance for Justice
Date: Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4, 2002
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Locale: New York Law School
This two-day workshop, presented by Alliance for Justice experts, will teach attorneys and accountants the essential elements of representing tax-exempt organizations that lobby for legislation, support or oppose ballot measures, become involved in candidate elections, or take part in other types of advocacy. This workshop was designed for professionals who already serve many of the other needs of the nonprofit sector and who would like to expand their practice into this growing area of law. With the help of nationally recognized experts, participants learned the law determining the permissible extent of lobbying by charitable organizations, the federal rules for election-related activity by various types of tax-exempt entities, and the legal ways for foundations to fund nonprofit advocates.
Participants had the opportunity to earn 14 CLE credits, including 9 in Profession Practice, 4 in Skills, and 1 in Ethics.
