Lesson:
  Tasks of managers

The learner will:

  • Lists tasks of managers (traditional and non traditional)
  • Identify and check off those tasks that apply to his or her current position
  • Create clusters of tasks and link them to a specific topic

Lesson: Competencies, competency profiles

The learner will:

  • Define what a "competency" is through class discussion
  • Work in a group and come up with examples of general competencies that link to a type of position, i.e., customer service, manager, administrator
  • Use the previous exercise as a guide and work in teams; list and describe competencies associated with management positions
  • Complete the exercise of matching specific performance-related functions or "competency profiles" to the appropriate competency thus creating a "take away" list
  • Determine competency profiles
  • Use competency profiles and document levels of performance

Lesson: Core Competencies, evaluation and measurement

  •  Develop a list of core competencies for his or her position and one of the positions in his or her department
  • Work independent and then in a group and develop specific performance-related criteria for each competency
  • Understand how these can be applied to an individual's performance appraisal, performance plan, training and development
  • Select a method of evaluating and measuring each competency
  • Determine organizational tools, mechanisms and methods to address competency levels
