The Mid-Term Elections: Vindication! But for Whom?
Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at 12:50 p.m.
New YorkLawSchool, Room B100
On Tuesday, October 10, 2006, the JusticeActionCenter presented The Mid-Term Elections: Vindication! But for Whom? An extraordinary panel of experts, Dick Brennan, FOX 5 News; Marcia Kramer, WCBS New York; and Lis Wiehl, FOX News Channel, participated in a lively discussion of local and national politics and their coverage by the media. Professor Seth Harris moderated the panel's discussion, which covered topics including the Foley scandal and what effect it may have on the mid-term elections; Iraq, Korea, terrorism, and school shootings, and their possible influence on the elections, the close Senate race in New Jersey; New York's race for Attorney General; and the possibilities of Senator Clinton and Mayor Bloomberg each running for president.
Pizza and soda were served to all attendees.
Dick Brennan is the weekend co-anchor of FOX 5 News at 6 and 10 p.m. He covers stories ranging from the war on terror to City Hall, from presidential politics to education, to all the issues affecting the FOX 5 community.
After September 11th, he spent months at Ground Zero, providing extensive coverage of the heroic efforts of the rescue and cleanup teams. He has followed the heart-wrenching stories of so many families who lost loved ones that day. Dick also went to the Middle East to report on the war in Iraq. He enjoys nothing more than covering the streets of New York, where he was raised.
Marcia Kramer joined CBS 2 in 1990 as an investigative and political reporter. She also co-hosts WCBS-TV's public affairs political talk show "Kirtzman and Kramer." Prior to CBS 2, she was the City Hall bureau chief at the New York Daily News.
Most recently, Kramer broke a story exposing the improper use of lights and sirens by city government officials. Her story led to Mayor Bloombrg's crackdown resulting in the removal of lights and sirens from hundreds of vehicles. Other credits include a report on people stealing school supplies and selling them on the Black Market, a story on schools that served old food past its freshness date, and a film exposing school board members vacationing in Las Vegas on
taxpayer dollars. She has also been cited for her reports on the Swiss Banks and Nazi Gold that culminated in a decision by the Swiss to finally give back the money.Kramer is also remembered for her 1992 interview with President Clinton in which he confessed he "never inhaled."
Lis Wiehl has been a legal analyst at the FOX News Channel (FNC) since October 2001. Currently the co-director and adjunct professor at New YorkLawSchool's program in Law and Journalism, Wiehl also serves as a legal commentator on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.

Before that, Wiehl held the position of principal deputy chief minority investigative counsel for the United States House of Representatives, Committee on Judiciary. Additionally, from 1990-1995, she served as an executive assistant at the United States Attorney’s office. Wiehl began her career as a litigation associate for Perkins Coie law firm.
