What is Streaming Video and Audio?

Streaming video and audio clips are media that can be viewed over the internet. New York Law School partners with a state-of-the-art content distribution network provider to deliver clips as a continuous stream rather than as a file that the user has to download. The result is a fast connection speed and the ability to access different parts of a stream at random. This is a perk with lectures that are frequently over an hour in length.

The Service

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) supports many streaming video and audio services to faculty and students. There is no cost for this service. When requesting that an event be videotaped, users should specify that the intended purpose is streaming. A two day turnaround time is required for all streaming requests.

Live Webcasting

For certain high-profile events, OIT can produce live webcasts. With a six-second delay, these webcasts transmit an event in real time to any computer anywhere in the world over the internet. Note: Setup time for this procedure is intensive and not all requests can be accommodated.

Privacy

New York Law School streaming video and audio files can only be viewed by those who have access to a special, private web link. No one casually surfing the internet would be able to play them. Therefore, video and audio clips can be shared at the discretion of faculty and students.
