John Yoo
John Yoo is a Professor at Berkeley law school and a former deputy assistant attorney general with the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel from 2001 to 2003. As an assistant attorney general, Professor Yoo worked on issues involving national security, separation of power and foreign affairs. He has also clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas and served as general counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee. Professor Yoo’s published works include The Powers of War and Peace: The Constitution and Foreign Affairs after 9/11 (University of Chicago Press, 2005), and War by Other Means: An Insider's Account of the War on Terrorism (Grove/Atlantic 2006). He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in American History from Harvard University (1989) and his Juris Doctor from Yale (1992).
 
 

 

Adam Liptak
Adam Liptak is the national legal correspondent of The New York Times. As a member of the news staff, Mr. Liptak has covered the Supreme Court nominations of Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, the investigation into the disclosure of Valerie Plame’s identity and the trial of one of the Washington, D.C. snipers. He also writes the Sidebar column, which covers developments in the law. As a lawyer, Mr. Liptak spent a decade advising The New York Times and its other media companies on matters related to media law, such as defamation and newsgathering issues. Before joining The Times, he was an associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel. Mr. Liptak received both his B.A. (1984) and Juris Doctor (1988) from Yale University.
