The Justice Action Center's Safe Passage Project will hold a training on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status ("SIJS") cases on Tuesday, March 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at New York Law School's Wellington Conference Center. The training is free and open to the public.

For attorneys seeking Continuing Legal Education ("CLE") credit, a fee of $99 applies. This fee is waived for all New York Law School alumni. This CLE program is approved for both transitional and non-transitional attorneys for a maximum of three CLE credits in Professional Practice.

Our panelists will discuss all facets of SIJS cases—from preparation to submission—as well as issues regarding the representation of juveniles generally. The panel also will discuss other visa alternatives that attorneys may pursue for juvenile clients, including U-visas, asylum, and family-based immigration. Refreshments will be served.

Speakers include:

  • Jason Cade, Esq., Skadden Fellow, Staff Attorney, The Door Legal Services
  • Lindsay A. Curcio, Esq., Adjunct Professor and Staff Attorney, Justice Action Center at New York Law School
  • Julie E. Dinnerstein, Esq., Co-Director for Immigration Intervention and Brooklyn Family Justice Center Legal Project, Sanctuary for Families
  • Mark Lewis, Esq., Director of Immigrant Services, Administration for Children's Services, New York City
  • The Honorable Douglas Schoppert, Immigration Judge, Executive Office for Immigration Review
  • Elissa Steglich, Managing Attorney, Immigrants Rights Program, American Friends Service Committee, Newark

The Safe Passage Project supports non-profit organizations in the pro bono representation of juveniles in immigration proceedings. The Safe Passage Project pairs attorneys with clients and provides volunteer students to assist with research, preparation, and foreign language interpretation for these pro bono cases.
